Hey everyone, September’s Ableton download is here! This month, I decided to record my music box which plays the song Imagine by John Lennon. “A musical box is an automatic musical instrument in a box which produces musical notes by using a set of pins placed on a revolving cylinder or disc to pluck the tuned teeth of a steel comb.” I’ve recorded the melody, processed the audio, and added the sample into an Ableton’s Sampler instrument. “Sampler is Ableton’s advanced sampling instrument. It’s extremely versatile, combining traditional sampling features with advanced sound design and synthesis.” This will allow you to alter the pitch, octave, duration, and more, while you imagine new ideas for your music. Given everything that’s going on in the world currently, I felt this song would be an appropriate choice for the moment, I hope this brings you some joy and lets your imagination run wild!
Hey everyone, here is August’s free sample download, this month I decided to record the Lap Harp tuned to G major. This specific model can be found just about anywhere online, and originates from Belarus. The Logo on the Music Maker is Cyrillic, the Russian alphabet. Phonetically pronounced, it sounds like “Pyer-uh-puh-losh-ka.” This is the name of a small, sweet-singing bird that lives in Belarus. This little bird only sings its song when it flies high in the sky. People hear its song, but due to the bird’s tiny size, cannot see it. To people below it’s as if the sky itself were singing. When factory workers first heard the Music Maker’s sound over a hundred years ago, they decided to name their instrument after this little bird. Happy Fourth of July everyone! Here’s another Ableton drum rack to celebrate this great holiday. The rack is comprised of samples from a 7-key coconut shell Kalimba. This instrument also goes by different names around the world such as the Mbira and thumb piano. I hope you enjoy this new tool in you kit. Please share what you make with it in the comments!
